A friend has noticed a yellowish-white fungi growing on the back of her fitted furniture-which is against an external wall.
There is no sign of condensation or dampness to the walls-damp meter has been used.
Neither myself with many years in Public Health or an experience furniture maker have seen anything like this.
Can anyone help please.
thankyou

Hi xaghra,
Law of nature always applies to mildew/molds. Whenever objects i.e woods, clothing, etc. have been wet or there was moisture around it mildew/molds grow. Assuming that there is a visible mold growth already it has been there for quite a while. Since growth of such organisms dont grow in 48 hours. Im in the US so I dont have an idea of Brands in the UK. To clean it just wipe it with a wet cloth immersed in a neutral cleaner and spray it with a fungicide.
Note: There are classifications of cides that you might want to use.
bacteria spores-sporicide
fungi-fungicide
mildew-mildewcide
or there is a general purpose brand that is being used as disinfectant in hospitals. In the US and our company uses Microban.
Hope this helps.

Some molds require very little mositure. The moisture exhaled by a sleeping person can in some cases be enough moisture. If the furniture is right against the exterior wall, condensation is more likely. Moving the furniture an inch or two away rduces the chance of condensation. It also allows air movement in that area. Moving air reduces the possibility of mold growth.

Keep it clean. Keep it dry. Let the fresh air flow past.

Basic house cleaning tips; first thing, take your container of cleaning supplies into every single room. This will avoid unnecessary trips from room to room- trying to run from one bathroom to another bathroom to the kitchen. That way you've got everything in one place.

Second is to carry a trash bag with you and leave it in the middle of the floor. That way every time you have a piece of trash you just have to throw it in the middle of the floor, put the trash in the bag, and you're done there.

The first thing you want to do when you walk into a room is start in the top corner of any room, dusting all the way done. That way you don't vacuum and have to vacuum again after the dust is all on the floor. You would want to make sure that you get your vents and your fans, and then everything on the walls, and of course on the furniture.

Furniture is the mass noun for the movable objects ('mobile' in Latin languages) intended to support various human activities such as seating and sleeping in beds, to hold objects at a convenient height for work using horizontal surfaces above the ground.
